Premier’s House Management

Sir Ahmadu Bello (June 12, 1910 – January 15, 1966) was the first premier of the Northern Nigeria region from 1954-1966. He was the Sardauna of Sokoto and one of the prominent leaders in Northern Nigeria alongside Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, both of whom were prominent in negotiations about the region’s place in an independent Nigeria. As leader of the Northern People’s Congress, he dominated Nigerian politics throughout the early Nigerian Federation and the First Nigerian Republic.

The house of this famous Man is being located in Arewa House and also managed by the same organisation.

Our Facilities

Arewa House welcomes research students and provides research affiliation to students from all parts of the world conducting research on any aspects of the state and society in Northern Nigeria.

Some of our facilities include

  • Banquet Hall: it has a capacity of one thousand 1000 persons, fully equipped with the state of the earth facilities, VIP sections, full air conditioners, modern sound system and screens.
  • Auditorium Hall: A five hundred 500 seat capacity hall with all the needed facility of a modern hall, it also have a VIP section, fully air conditioned and public address system.
  • Conference Hall: it a round table fifty 50 seats capacity hall that is meant for executive, intellectual as well as small academic functions.
  • Training Rooms: they are meant for educational training functions. One of the rooms accommodate 30 number of participants while the bigger one can accommodates the maximum of 60 individuals.
  • Committee Room.
  • PG Hostel: We have a moderate and affordable accommodation for researchers who are duly registered.
  • Book Center: We have a variety of books especially in the field of history, politics, literature and many more for sale in our book center.

    Our training rooms are meant for educational training functions.  One of the rooms accommodates 30 numbers of participants while the bigger one can accommodate the maximum of 60 individuals.

Functions of Arewa House

  • Research Development

    development of research in the history of the North through post-graduate study and publication, whenever this cannot be adequately done by State Research Centers (later to be know as History Bureaus), were also to be vigorously encouraged and promoted

  • Cultural Development

    Maintenance of Museum  as a memorabilia to the life and work of the late Sardauna of Sokoto, and illustrative of the cultural traditions of the North and also organization of academic and cultural  activities appropriately associated with such Museum.

  • Historical Research

    As a center for historical documentation and research, Arewa House is concerned with procuring, preserving, analyzing and discussing issues of national and International interest and in particular with issues of specific interest to the development of northern Nigeria.

  • Manuscript Conservation

    We engage in the arrangement, sorting, labelling, boxing, cataloguing, index analysis, paper conservation such as mending, dusting, and collating of all materials including Arabic Manuscripts materials, colonial files, journals, government publications and newspapers.

  • Conferences, Seminars & Workshop

    We also organise educational conferences and seminars.
