The Arewa House Archives is a public trust that safeguards records vital to the government, citizens and general researchers, useful for interpretation of the past for the benefit of the present and future.   Safeguarding its Arabic/Ajami Manuscript Collection and providing access to it is an integral part of this trust and one that we hope to develop and enhance.

The Arewa House library started in a modest form in the year 1970 with the appointment of Professor Smith as the first Director of History of Northern Nigeria Project. Between 1970 and 1984, Professor Smith had traveled far and wide to procure historical works, theses, dissertations and other forms of materials that have bearing on the history of Northern Nigeria.

The Museum is one of the academic units of Arewa House. It is made up of a big central hall and twelve satellite galleries, designed to project the life and times of the late Sir Ahmadu Bello, his associates and the history and culture of the north generally.

To provide institutional continuity and sustainable documentation – on Northern Nigeria. It is primarily concerned with procuring, preserving, analyzing and discussing issues of national and international interest, particularly as they affect the development of Northern Nigeria.
